In a release, the company’s emerging digital business director Tero Hottinen said that in order to keep up with the pace of world change and digital disruption, Cargotec wishes to collaborate “with those who are innovative, nimble and can act fast”.

“Together with Rainmaking’s world-class experience and capabilities in startup scouting and mentoring, as well as through the collaboration with other industry partners within the programme, we can truly create a joint impact that benefits the future,” he commented.

According to Cargotec, the Trade & Transport Impact programme is the first programme of its kind in both scale and worldwide scope within maritime and logistics. It is planned to last three years, with Hamburg its main venue.

Cargotec said it is one of the key partners driving the programme, having touch points across the entire cargo flow chain through its Kalmar and MacGregor business areas.

Insights, market access and relevant data flow can be garnered from this, the Finnish company said.

Cargotec has previous experience from activities and ecosystems with different startups and “[aims] to take [its] efforts to the next level” with the project, according to Mr Hottinen.

Commenting on Cargotec’s participation, Alex Farcet, partner and founder of the Rainmaking startup accelerator, said: “Over the years, we have built proven models and experience in other industries, and we are now bringing this to maritime, cargo transport and logistics.

“We are excited to do this with Cargotec, which has a unique position in the global cargo flow chain and [the necessary] capabilities and mindset to truly impact industry change, together with other players in that field.”
