Continental CST releases the pressure

Continental says it’s designed the ContiPressureCheck system to help prolong a tyre’s lifecycle in port logistics and other goods handling locations, where slow and continuous loss of tyre pressure is one of the most common causes of tyre punctures.

“Regular maintenance checks on the tyre pressure are time-consuming and cost-intensive, and therefore often neglected – with serious consequences,” said Dr Michael Maertens, managing director.

The new system can be mounted on almost all types of industrial vehicles and works with pneumatic tyres from all tyre manufacturers. In contrast to comparable systems, ContiPressureCheck is used inside the tyre, where the inflation pressure and tyre temperature are continuously monitored with via a sensor.

Data received by the sensor is sent by wireless transmission to the central receiver, which processes the data and sends them directly to the display in the driver’s cab. The difference between the stipulated and actual tyre pressures shows the driver immediately when to restore the correct tyre pressure. Automatic monitoring means the risks of blowout accidents are reduced.

Continental CST says ensuring the right tyre pressure not only prolongs the tyre’s lifecycle and makes it safer, it also leads to lower energy consumption of the vehicles, an increased mileage capability and reduced environmental impact is also reduced, since CO2 emissions are cut.
