Deltaport returns to Konecranes
Konecranes has received an order for six Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes from GCT Canada Limited Partnership for its GCT Deltaport facility located in Port Metro Vancouver.
The equipment will boost yard velocity at Canada’s flagship container terminal and the delivery will be completed in the winter of 2017.
“After extensive investigation of RTG suppliers and configurations, Konecranes’ 16-wheel RTGs were selected. We believe the solution offers our operations the optimal balance of safety, performance, and quality to best service our customers,” said Eric Waltz, president of GCT Canada.
He added: “Konecranes’ RTGs were selected for their reliability and technological features that support our growth while minimizing our environmental impact.”
The RTGs will join an advanced equipment fleet equipping GCT Deltaport to be big ship ready, smoothing any volume surges from the largest vessels calling the facility.

“These RTGs are an optimal solution to meet GCT’s stringent dual requirements to ensure safe and enhanced operational performance in the yard,” he added.
The hydraulics-free RTGs in this repeat order are identical to the first order, the port will be equipped with a Tier 4f diesel genset and Konecranes’ Diesel Fuel Saver technology.
Each one will have a Crane Management System (CMS) that will be linked with a Remote CMS system in GCT Deltaport’s central maintenance building
As well as this, the cranes will also be equipped with Konecranes’ Active Load Control system, which eliminates container sway to increase container handling performance.
