Felixstowe opts for Bromma VGM solution
The Port of Felistowe has selected spreader manufacturing giant, Bromma, to supply spreader twistlock based weighing systems in preparation for new SOLAS regulations that require shippers to obtain the verified gross mass (VGM) of packed containers in advance of ship stow planning.
There is an increasing need for container weight verification solutions that do not affect cycle times and the logistic flows in the terminal.
“We want to have a system that weighs the container as part of the normal operating cycle,” said Stephen Abraham, chief operating officer at the Port of Felixstowe.
“We have tested the system and seen that it performs according to specifications as well as to expectations,” he added.
The new regulations are expected to come into force on July 1 2016.
“We are delighted to receive the order from the Port of Felixstowe,” said Lars Meurling, marketing director of Bromma.
“We know the system performance including the fact that it performs well within the requirements established by the authorities in the UK. We are delighted to get this order from the Port of Felixstowe which emphasises the strength in the solution to the SOLAS regulation requirements we offer,” he added.
