As a special feature the two cranes are equipped with six axles. Usually, the HMK 260 E features a 5-axle chassis but is designed such that a sixth axle can be fitted if the quay has a restricted load-bearing capacity as is often the case in the Far East. The crane stabilisers have also been adapted to the quay specifications.

Kalmar has won an order for 53 straddle carriers from South African Port Operations (SAPO), the terminal operating subsidiary of South Africa’s transportation conglomerate, Transnet. The order follows one in 2001 for 60 straddle carriers, also for SAPO. All 53 are for the ports of Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
