Kalmar cranes destined for Curaçao

The panamax-sized cranes will be used for modernising customers’ container handling operations at the Willemstad Container Terminal on Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island in the southern Caribbean Sea.

They will have an outreach of 39 metres, an under-spreader height of 32 metres and a capacity of 40 tonnes under spreader for single lift operation, Cargotec said.

The crane order was booked into Cargotec’s Q3 2018 order intake, with the delivery planned to be completed by the end of next year.

Curaçao Port Services already operates two Nelcon-Kalmar STS cranes — which have approximately 400 metres total berth length — at the Port of Willemstad, the island of Curaçao’s main port.

Commenting on the order, Curaçao Port Services managing director Fernando Da Costa Gomez said that his company decided on Kalmar due to their reliability, broad service network and high technological expertise.

“We have a long relationship with [Kalmar] and expect these new cranes to improve our productivity, safety and eco-efficiency as well as decrease our maintenance costs.”
