Kalmar nets Egyptian refurb job
Kalmar is to retrofit both two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes for Alexandria Container and Cargo Handling Co (ACCHCO) at the Egyptian port of Alexandria – an order worth approximately €3.5m.
The cranes, which were originally supplied by Cerretti Tanfany and have been operational since 1995, will be fully refurbished both electrically and mechanically, replacing the most critical components in order to extend the lifetime of the cranes. The works include the replacement of the current spreaders by Bromma that will be supplied as part of the retrofit works.
“This is a very important project for ACCHCO as our STS cranes are the key equipment to develop our daily container handling activity,” said Admiral Alaa el-din Nada, chairman, ACCHCO.
The project is being carried out by the Kalmar Crane Upgrades specialists in South EMEA, from one of five regional Kalmar Crane Upgrades competence centres around the globe.
“This is the biggest order for Kalmar Crane Upgrades in Egypt so far. We are confident that more customers and opportunities will open up for us in Egypt,” added Eduardo Prat, vice president, Kalmar EMEA South.
Established in 1984, ACCHCO is the first specialised container handling terminal in Egypt. The company operates two major terminals, Alexandria Container Terminal at the Port of Alexandria, and ElDekheila Terminal at the Port of Dekheila.
