Konecranes wins large crane order
Konecranes has received an order for two rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) from Grupo CICE, for its multipurpose terminal in Veracruz, Mexico.
Both cranes will have a lifting capacity of 40 tonnes, and reach one-over-five containers high and seven-plus-truck lane wide.
They will also come equipped with Konecranes’ active load control system, which eliminates container sway to increase container handler performance; diesel fuel save technology; auto-steering; and, the company’s safety-enhancing feature, Stack Collision Prevention.
Grupo CICE said: “Due to the experience we already have with Konecranes, GRUPO CICE has decided to rely on its equipment and is proud to announce the acquisition of two RTGs, which will arrive by the end of this year.
“With this order, we want to optimise the productivity of our operations and offer a better service to our customers, handling their cargo more efficiently, and attract new customers.”
Grupo CICE is an important port operator in Veracruz, while the port itself, located on Mexico’s south-east coast, is the country’s largest and most historically important sea port, serving central and southern Mexico through railways and roads with global sea connections.
In addition to the new cranes, the port also has plans for expansion with two new container terminals in the works.
