Low-cost location technology
An inexpensive wireless Real Time Locating System (RTLS) that will automatically find assets, shipments and consignments in busy port yards has been released by Savi Technology.
Based on battery-powered Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) rather than Wi-Fi, WLAN or other wireless data technologies, the system, says Savi, is simple and cost effective, as well as being suitable for the harsh and metal-rich port environments.
The identity of the RFID tag is displayed on a site map, but the tags also have lights and buzzers on them that can be activated to help in locating the asset.
