MAFI tractors for Ghana
Germanys MAFI Transport-Systeme GmbH has completed delivery of follow up tractor orders at Tema Port in Ghana meaning that the whole fleet has now been upgraded.
Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) has been a loyal MAFI customer since 1988 during which time more than 100 tractors and trailers have been supplied to the operator.
MAFI has recently completed carrying out a complete fleet renewal of eight MAFI R336 RoRo tractors for Tema.The tractors are fitted with Mercedes engines, ZF transmission and Kessler axles and are used for RoRo as well as terminal operations.
Luzia Schmitt, MAFI spokesperson, told Port Strategy: “Ghana Ports and Harbor renews their fleet in a continuous way. They order smaller quantities within shorter intervals so consequently have a mix of older and newer tractors. This has a positive impact on repair costs. MAFI tractors proved to be reliable and robust even under very hard working conditions in Africa.”
Outside Tema port, these new RoRo tractors also operate for the container terminal Golden Jubilee and the Port of Takoradi, also in Ghana, works with 10 MAFI RoRo tractors.
Within the next few years this port will be expanded considerably in order to relieve Tema from congestion. Tema is currently handling more than 1m teu per year, partially for Ghana but also for a large portion of other African nations.
Tractors are the spine of the transportation within the port as they manage the transport from debarkation to the various storage areas inside and outside the complex.
