Movement capture all the rage

Tapping the wasted kinetic energy of trucks entering and exiting the port, the company’s Electro-Kinetic Road Ramp has already caught the eye of a major UK port, who expects to recover its capital outlay costs within just three years.

, Peter Hughes, managing director of Highway Energy Systems, explains that ferry and container ports are of “great value” to the company, as they have large numbers of vehicle movements every day, most of which are heavy goods vehicles that produce the maximum power output from each ramp.

The mechanism is said to be extremely robust, virtually maintenance free, and when correctly deployed will not take any fuel from passing vehicles.

Importantly, the ramps produce no carbon dioxide or any other harmful emissions, are straight-forward to install, and comply with all necessary safety standards.

Such is the growing demand for the Electro-Kinetic Road Ramp that the company is actively broadening its traditional UK manufacturing base, setting up a joint venture in Spain and discussing a manufacturing and marketing joint venture with a major American company to handle the North American market.

“We are also manufacturing ramps to be installed in approach and exit roads to port areas and airports,” adds Mr Hughes.
