New axle promises savings
Empty container handling (ECH) operations can now drastically reduce their tyre bills thanks to a new XTL drive axle.
AxleTech International’s XTL ‘tyre saver’ axle (used on Hyster’s latest ECH models) reduces tyre wear by as much as an anticipated factor of three for the front (drive axle) tyres, plus 1.5 for the rear (steer axle) tyres, according to Hyster, who has sole use of the technology at present.
The new axle works by allowing the wheels to rotate independently, greatly helping to minimise tyre scrubbing yet still providing full acceleration and braking power.
