New Kalmar tractor steals the show
Kalmar introduced its new terminal tractor at the Mid-America Trucking Show last month. Entering the North American market, the Ottawa T2 is purpose-built for “superior” performance, productivity and serviceability.
The company says the T2’s “ground-breaking” design will results in easier maintenance and serviceability – vital for productivity in a fast-paced terminal. In turn, many routine service procedures, like oil and transmission fluid checks, can be carried out quicker and safely from ground level.
“With features like a strengthened chassis, faster fifth-wheel lifting, safety enhancements and easier serviceability, the T2 will enhance the demanding task of spotting trailers by bringing more order, control, and efficiency to the process,” said Chris Booth, vice president, terminal tractors, Kalmar.
The T2 also uses Kalmar’s Ottawa three-point air suspension system and electric cab tilt and features a re-designed cab to offer more interior room and better visibility.
Elsewhere, Liebherr has secured an order for a new LHM 500 mobile harbour crane. The crane, which will be delivered to South Ports NZ Ltd, will be used for container handling for MSC, the port’s significant containerised cargo customer.
The crane, which is the third LHM delivered to New Zealand’s southernmost port, comes with a twin-lift spreader and tower extension, giving a cabin height of around 29m.
South Port says most of the MSC vessels enter the port light meaning they are high in the water, so the additional height of the cabin and boom pivot were essential components of the order.
It will be operational by September this year and will work side-by-side with an LHM 400, delivered in 2010.
