Plug-in port standards set
Classification society RINA has launched new voluntary environmental standards to allow ships to connect to shore-based electricity while in port, reducing harbour air pollution.
Recommended green spec areas include the relationship between spreader efficiency standards, environmental impact in terms of truck idling, the correlation between crane power consumption and crane spreader weight, and spreader energy consumption and its correlation with spreader design decisions.
