SmartPort solutions for Argentina
Kalmar is to supply a range of its SmartPort solutions to TecPlata SA, a fully-owned subsidiary of ICTSI, for its ‘greenfield’ terminal at Port La Plata, Argentina.
The company will supply Kalmar SmartLift and SmartStack for 18 Kalmar terminal tractors, nine ZPMC rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs), two Kalmar reachstackers and three Kalmar front-end loaders. The delivery also includes the SmartMap visualisation tool.
Javier Ramirez, operations manager, TecPlata, said: “We are implementing SmartPort solutions as part of our development strategy for process automation. We believe that process automation will quickly become an industry standard to stay at the forefront in terms of safety, security and overall terminal efficiency.”
TecPlata says it expects the SmartPort solutions to quickly benefit its operations. SmartStack will provide real-time, accurate inventory of the terminal’s container, while SmartLift will is expected to improve operations between container handling equipment and trucks through job list optimisation and automated job selection.
As a result, safety, security and productivity levels are expected to increase, by improving the quality of information and reducing the number of human errors. Visibility of the terminal will also be improved with SmartMap.
The terminal is part of a 30-year concession obtained by ICTSI back in 2008 for the design, construction and operation of a new terminal in Port La Plata. The terminal will feature 820m of quay wall, a container storage area and other facilities once completed.
The first phase is due to be completed by December 2013.
