Transas launches port management system

The PMIS has been designed to fit with the best practices of the port industry and can be customised to meet the specific needs of any port. It features a set of web applications which allow vessel and cargo operations to be automatically handled. Related processes including vessel calls management and chartering.

The allocation of cargo handling equipment and invoicing and management reports can also be handled.

Chris Loizou, director, shore-based systems business unit, Transas Marine, told Port Strategy: “There are a series of quality solutions out in the market from a variety of developers, in addition, many large ports have their own customised systems for such tasks. Transas aims, by interfacing the VTS with the PMIS, to streamline processes prior to the vessel’s arrival, optimise cargo flows through to the port services billing task and improve operations efficiency by all stakeholders having access to quality information through a straightforward user interface.”

The PMIS also features Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) software which provides the monitoring and management of vessel activity within the port and its location in operational areas. The system can be used to track port operations such as the real time usage of cranes and cargo flows and, together with 3D VTS, can provide 3D views of the navigational situation in a port.

Transas confirmed to Port Strategy that the system has already been tested successfully in West African ports.
