Trelleborg celebrates foam fender record order
Trelleborg Marine Systems has won its largest ever foam fender contract in terms of size and value. The order, for the Port of Marseille, is for 700 SeaGuard foam fenders and accessories, including chains and anchors, to be fitted at 39 of the port’s quays.
Trelleborg will also supply plastic pads for the quay wall to prevent abrasion of the fender body.
Richard Hepworth from Trelleborg Marine Systems told Port Strategy: “This contract, for foam fenders, is equally important to Trelleborg as it showcases a breadth of experience across different polymer materials. Our background is very much polymer based, and we’re committed to our business in that area. We place a lot of importance on ensuring bespoke systems are supplied to specifiers, which offer the best value and most effective solution to the specific challenges of their environment.”
“Utilising foam fenders, Marseille will have a practically unsinkable floating fender which will leave no marks on the incoming vessels. It is a practical and flexible solution that will allow Marseille to deploy them at various berths as needed to accommodate different vessels. Foam fenders represent a quality, quickly installed solution they can also offer potential cost savings, lower maintenance requirements and simpler installation when compared to other fendering systems,” he added.
Delivery will start this year and extend into 2014.
