Twistlock detection software a game-changer for ports
Germany’s Lase Industrielle Lasertechnik is launching a new 3D twistlock detection system which it says could be a “game changer” for terminal operators.
The 3D laser measuring system called LaseTDS allows for fully automatic container loading onto trucks using twistlock detection.
Lars Ambrosy, General Manager at LASE, told Port Strategy: “Until now ASC’s handled the containers up to two metres above the truck trailer. Remote ASC driver then took over the control from the monitoring center to drop the containers onto the truck trailer manually.”
He pointed out that the new system uses small laser spots to detect the twistlocks on the trailer and thus allows fully an automatic and precisely accurate container positioning on the trailer using real-time coordinates.
The LaseTDS application software makes this possible because it obtains all relevant data and sends it over to the ASC control.
Benefits of the new system include no manual loading and therefore improved safety for workers. Also, wear-free soft landings of the container can be achieved.
