Unique articulated STS design passes tests
Liebherr Container Cranes has completed testing of Patrick Stevedores’ specially designed ship-to-shore cranes.
The order for three STS cranes for Port Botany called for unique articulated booms to allow the cranes to operate within height restrictions at the port, due to its proximity to Sydney airport.
The complete articulated boom and main beam of one of the cranes for Port Botany was assembled in Liebherr Container Cranes facility on a special test bed and passed all tests.
In addition to the articulated booms, the cranes also feature an integrated pinning platform and electronic anti-sway to allow for automatic and semi-automatic operation of the load cycle.
The cranes will have an outreach of 57 m, a lifting height over rail 44.5 m, a span of 35 m and a back reach 25.7 m.
These cranes will join five existing Liebherr mobile harbour cranes already in operation at Patrick’s terminals in Australia.
