CLIMEPORT’s 2nd technical meeting

Valencia Port Authority leads the Port Authorities of Bahía de Algeciras (Spain), Marseilles (France), Livorno (Italy), Piraeus (Greece) and Koper (Slovenia), as well as Energy Agencies: AVEN (Spain) and GOLEA (Slovenia), ITE (Spain) in the project. The main objectives of the meeting are the validation of the methodology designed for the diagnosis of the greenhouse gases generated at the participating ports, and the programming of the project’s subsequent steps. Such steps include determining the carbon footprint of port activities and the definition and implementation of best practices to reduce the emissions.

The meeting will also appoint a Follow-up Committee consisting of a representative of each project partner. The Committee will define the criteria and will follow up and validate the action plans to be implemented at the ports. The methodology developed is intended to become a reference for other Mediterranean ports willing to apply it. The Port Authorities presented the actions already taken concerning communication and awareness-raising, as well as the work programme for the next few months. This includes participation in different national and European conferences and liaison with other initiatives, such as those of the World Ports Climate Initiative, with a view to spreading the measures implemented by the Project. Based on all such actions, further knowledge of the problem will be gained by the international port sector, whilst contributing to the adoption of measures like the ones proposed by CLIMEPORT.
