Crane of the Year award for Liebherr’s LHM 280

Liebherr had entered its nomination for the LHM 280 in the category “Crane of the Year” and had been shortlisted as one of 3 companies prior to the event.

The “Crane of the Year” award was handed over to Liebherr’s senior manager design, Mr. Walter Mietschnig (centre) , one of the major driving forces behind Liebherr’s highly successful Mobile Harbour Crane concept. A short extract of Liebherr’s nomination which convinced the jury, consisting of 12 international experts within the bulk handling industry:

“The LHM 280 was introduced in May 2008 setting new standards in efficiency, reliability and innovation. The crane’s flexibility makes it a universal all-rounder and key asset for handling everything, from containers, general cargo to bulk solids. With a max. lifting capacity of 84 t and a max. outreach of 40 m the crane is designed for a turnover up to 1000 t/h in bulk and to handle vessels up to Handymax. size.

The LHM 280 is well suited for small ports with length and draft restrictions and is available in a wide scope of specific settings.

Within 14 months already 15 units have been sold. In the first year since its market launch the LHM 280 has already topped the average annual sales figures of the preceding model, LHM 250, demonstrating the strong demand as well as the acceptance of the market for this specific crane type and size.”
