ESPO award shortlist

It will be awarded to the port authority that succeeds in safeguarding and further upgrading its nature and ecosystem, whether it be on land or waterside, in the port area.

ESPO will also reward ports which succeed in opening up these areas for the people living around the port and let them enjoy the nature it creates.

Antwerp Port Authority, Dunkirk-Port, Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes, HAROPA / Port of Le Havre Authority and Bremenports GmbH & Co. KG all applied for the award.

As well as the Freeport of Riga Authority, Port of Rotterdam, Port of Cartagena, Port Authority of Huelva, Port Authority of Mellila and Associated British Ports.

An independent panel of seven international experts will choose the winner. This jury will be chaired by the President of the European Parliament and TEN-T coordinator, Pat Cox.

The award will be presented to the winning company during an award ceremony and port night on 9 November 2016 in Brussels.

Last year the award was won the by the Port of Dublin in recognition of its strategies in making schools and universities aware of their local port and its activities.

The Port of Guadeloupe also received a special mention from the jury for its project ‘discovering my port’. It focused on educating locals on port-related activities in an island environment and the ports commitment to preserving the environment.

Previous winners of the award include the Port of Gijón (2009), the Port of Helsinki (2010), the Ports of Stockholm (2011), the Port of Genoa (2012), the Port of Antwerp (2013) and the Port of Koper (2014).
