Felixstowe wins award for emissions reduction
Port of Felixstowe has won an award for its efforts to reduce CO2 and road congestion.
Felixstowe, managed by Hutchison Ports, secured the Port Operator of the Year accolade at Lloyd’s List Global Awards for its efforts to use rail transportation in a bid to reduce C02 and other road transport emissions, improve safety and approach development innovatively.
Clemence Cheng, executive director at Hutchison Ports and CEO of the Port of Felixstowe, said that throughout 50 years of container handling the port has “maintained a strong focus on constant improvement in all areas of our operations.
“We have invested constantly in new equipment, systems and people to both improve efficiency and reduce our environmental impact.”
Environment Award
Port of Felixstowe offers an Environment Award to recognise both large and small-scale projects happening at the port that demonstrate a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations.
This year, the ‘eRTG’ project, carried out by mobile electrification systems specialist VAHLE, won the award for converting diesel-powered Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTG) to electric power.
In 2015, the port announced plans to improve habitats and enhance green areas onsite as part of the Go Green campaign, which was launched by several major port operators.
The 20th anniversary Lloyd’s List Global Awards were presented at the National Maritime Museum in London.
