Funding Guide for Inland Waterway Transport
The “Funding Guide for Inland Waterway Transport in Europe” – one of the instruments of the European Commission’s NAIADES Action Programme – was officially launched on 1 October by Jonathan Scheele, Director of DG TREN Directorate B – Transport Logistics.
This launch took place on the occasion of the launch of the PLATINA project for the implementation of NAIADES, TEN-T and Comodality. While inland waterway transport is an obvious choice for moving freight in an energy efficient, environmentally friendly and safe way, the inland navigation sector needs financial support to reach its full potential. This easy-to-use guide for the inland waterway transport sector is designed to help the reader get a quick overview country by country on the funding opportunities, the actions to be funded, local and national transport initiatives as well as contact details for the information and application modalities he or she has been looking for. Published by the European Commission, the Funding Guide is there to encourage entrepreneurship – especially among private ship owners as well as small and medium-sized enterprises – throughout Europe. The full version of the Funding guide in English can be downloaded free of charge at www. naiades.info. An online version of the Funding Guide in English, Dutch, French and German will also be available and will be updated on a regular basis.
