Germany moves ahead with green strategy

Environmental commitment

Between 20 January and 12 February 2021, stakeholders can take part in an online dialogue where they can point out aspects that are essential for the future viability of the port and rank them in order of priority.

The ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven renewed their commitment to environmental performance, with the Port Environmental Review System (PERS) management standard back in December 2020.

Since June 2020, bremenports has resolved to make shore power supply widely available at both ports.

By the year 2023, eight stationary shore power supply facilities will be provided for marine shipping plus another two connections for inland shipping. Moreover, as from 2021 it will be compulsory for inland shipping to use the shore power connections that are already available.

Bremenports is also working in cooperation with the Institute for Energy and Recycling at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, to draw up a waste balance sheet to serve as a basis for the development of future recycling schemes.
