Intermodal ambitions
One rail operator is taking steps to provide a better intermodal operation.
Synergy has committed to strengthening its integral logistics services in the Bayonne-Noáin-Barcelona axis spanning France and Spain. This initiative is part of the strategy undertaken by the Hutchison Ports-owned company to providing a better intermodal operation in terms of time, price and the environment.
Alberto Jiménez has been recruited to Synergy’s commercial department to focus on offering companies a comprehensive “port-door” service. Thanks to the railway, costs and transit time for imports and exports will be reduced and CO2 emissions will be cut. The company saved 12t in 2020.
Launched in February 2020, the intermodal service between Southwest France and Hutchison Ports’ BEST Terminal at the Port of Barcelona offers efficiency for customers, who have achieved up to 11 days’ savings in transit time for their goods.
The consolidation and growth of traffic between France and the Port of Barcelona is represented by the Noain Intermodal Terminal, an essential strategic link, from where Synergy offers daily connections and multiple services.
Hutchison Ports’ network offers the Port of Barcelona more than 200 connections with ports all over the world. The semi-automated BEST Terminal is the largest railway terminal of the Mediterranean ports with 8 tracks of 750m that connects the world traffic to Europe through the Mediterranean and vice versa.
