Minoan Lines takes the environmental route

The Greek passenger ferry company, Minoan Lines, announced to take its responsibilities as regards maritime environmental protection and the optimisation of ship energy efficiency operations.

Minoan Lines said to continuously follow environmentally conscious practices placing the utmost importance on the respectful treatment of the environment combined with the implementation of energy efficiency measures. The company incorporates innovative action plans aimed to achieve optimal energy efficiency and economic ship operation, being in compliance with the mandatory regulations of MARPOL and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan, which has been issued as of January 2013.

During the recent annual repair of the vessels H/S/F Knossos Palace and H/S/F Festos Palace at Neorion Syros Shipyards, improved propeller blades were placed and silicon based eco-friendly hull coatings were applied to improve energy efficiency operations and ensure environmental protection. Such efficiency measures were adopted aiming to significantly reduce fuel consumption and consequently, CO2 emissions, providing a competitive advantage to Minoan Lines and its vessels.

Through the development of eco-friendly vessels and the optimisation of ship operations, Minoan Lines having, continues to take certain initiatives by following a combined strategy of operational excellence and by complying with the formulation and adoption of specific practices with the sole of improving eco-friendly efficiency on its operations in land and at sea.
