Saigon’s ECO-RTG order

At the end of 2007 the DP World terminal in Djibouti opted for the latest hybrid drive technology and ordered 6 ECO-RTGs. Operational data from container terminals that have purchased Rubber Tired Gantry cranes equipped with the hybrid ECO-RTG drive system reveal a fuel saving of 50% or more compared to conventional RTG drive systems while maintaining the same levels of productivity. Jan Mahn, sales director Siemens Cranes, confirms: “These orders from DP World for the ECO-RTG show confidence in the technology offered by this unique fuel saving hybrid equipment. As fuel prices increase worldwide, the need for fuel savings increases as well. The environment benefits from lower exhaust gas emissions and reduced noise, while container terminal operations benefit from lower fuel costs.” The variable speed generator set results in a considerable reduction in diesel fuel consumption. The combined reduction in the annual emissions of CO2 of all ECORTG cranes sold to date equals 17,000 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to the output of 1,900 European households. Key to the hybrid drive system is the patented diesel engine management system. The energy conversions in the system are kept to a minimum in order to get the most optimal drive system. The hybrid drives used in the ECORTG are specially developed for heavy mobile equipment powered by a diesel electric system.
