An investment of several hundred million euros is to go into the new terminal, which will have an initial capacity of a minimum of six billion cu metres per annum and will be expanded in phases. Guaranteed longterm agreements for throughput are one of the main conditions for the investment. There are also plans in place by a third party for a power station in Europoort – it is expected that the initiatives will be combined.

With the aim of securing major new customers, Cagliari International Container Terminal is planning a 15 metre dredging project. The terminal needs the dredging project, expected to take channel draughts from 14 to 16 metres, to bring in new business and secure its future. The company hopes to have the first 500 metres, including 400 metres of the main channel, dredged by March next year.
