Contship seeks Voltri concession

Contship Italia, which forms part of the Eurokai/Eurogate group, has formalised its bid to manage Voltri Terminal Europa. Although this covers the sixth development module and also the extension of the fifth module, the terminal group has indicated an interest in managing all of Voltri, which is currently run by PSA.

However, future participation is not being ruled out.

Contship Italia sources point out that Voltri currently handles similar traffic levels to the port of La Spezia, despite having 1,233,00 sq metres of land compared to just 270,000 sq metres at La Spezia Container Terminal. Furthermore, Contship Italia claims to be able to bring to Genova additional traffic of 350,000TEUs during its first five years in charge of the proposed new container terminal, into which it plans to invest ?40m.
