Dover Harbour Board
Dover Harbour Board is looking to create a new marina and four new ferry berths in a major re-development plan for the Western Docks. The Eastern Docks Ferry Terminal, expert consultants have confirmed, is approaching full capacity.
It will be capable of handling 9m tonnes of cargo annually, although this will be extended to 15m tonnes depending on demand.
There is no room for additional berths and little scope for further expansion. The Board is consulting with government and other agencies to create a “buffer zone” to assemble freight vehicles off the A20 between Folkestone and Dover, which is currently under strain from record freight traffic, to manage the flow rates through the town and within the port.
