DP World eyes Crete
A DP World management delegation recently made a working trip to Greece to review port operations there. The officials visited Piraeus, Thessaloniki and Tympaki in Crete.
Interested parties will have to partially finance construction of the facility, although public investment of ?396.3m is also earmarked.
The Greek government is currently spending ?6bn on upgrading facilities at existing ports and is expected to privatise operations in Piraeus from 2007, where Piraeus Port Authority has earmarked ?215m to upgrade its container operations over the next four years. Reports suggest the DP World is particularly interested in Tympaki as a potential transhipment hub.
