DPW Yarimca ready for remotely-operated RTGs

The two pieces of the equipment at the Turkish container terminal, which operates 18 RTGs from the Finnish company, will be fitted with two Remote Operating Stations and are scheduled to be operational at the start of next year.

Decoupling a crane and its operator is an important step towards the next generation of lifting, with the operator able to become a lot more productive and the whole crane fleet’s productivity able to be improved, Konecranes said.

Antoine Bosquet, sales director for the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region for the lifting equipment company’s port solutions area, explained: “Together, we will test the remote operation concept, studying the performance of the remotely operated RTGs versus the manned RTGs in the container yard as they carry out work cycles in everyday operating conditions.”

The two cranes at DP World Yarimca are electrically-powered by cable reel systems and already have safety-enhancing and operator-assisting features like Stack Collision Prevention, Trailer Lift Prevention, Auto-Truck Guiding and Auto-Positioning.
