Feeder service to Teesport
PD Ports has just started running a twice weekly feeder service from Felixstowe to Teesport, in order to develop its shortsea and coastal traffic through the northern port.
However, the Logical Link service is aiming at also to giving a shippers a ‘package’ that makes good use of Teesports developing deepsea capability.
This includes cargo storage and port to door delivery from its subsidiary PD Logistics. Further, the port has good intermodal links, with high-cube freight train capacity to Glasgow Mossend.
Two major retailers have already come on board, one being ASDA, part of the Walmart group, who has already put in place a 360,000 sq ft import centre at the port, (reducing its road travel by over two million miles per annum). Tesco is currently building a 1.2 million sq ft import centre at Teesport, due to become operational this summer.
The new deepsea Northern Gateway Container Terminal (NGCT), scheduled to open in 2012.
