GIJON BUILDS BULK CAPACITY..
Work has started on the ¢ 580m expansion of the port of Gijon, the primary aim of which is to add new capacity for coal and iron ore cargo flows.
The announcement follows the signing of a new five-year agreement with Hargreaves Group, which will see the company significantly increase the volumes of coal it currently imports through Immingham.
Infrastructure works entail the development of a new breakwater, a new 145ha land area and 140ha harbour basin.
The work is being implemented by a consortium led by Spanish construction company Dragados, part of the ACS Group
