Ipswich one step closer

PC REMBRANDT, BMT’s ship handling training and familiarisation software, was used to determine the wind and tidal conditions under which vessels will be able to enter and depart from the port with and without the support of tugs. The company also set out the strategy for beacon, buoy and light use in the area.

Work will commence this month on a 150-metre long quay wall, a hydraulically operated linkspan, a tug berth and two protectivemooring dolphins. With completion of additional work, including dredging and the creation of new surfacing, the new facilities will be operational by January 2005. The £6.1 million capital project follows agreement to extend the port’s existing five-year agreement with Ferryways by 20 years.
