JadeWeserPort crosses planning hurdle

The 360 hectare site will house 1.7 km of quays, a 650 m container handling area and a water depth of 18m.

Lower Saxony’s Minister of Economics Walter Hirche said: “This planning decision finally places JadeWeserPort plans on a solid footing.” He added that the economics of the massive project were sound.

“Germany’s seaport infrastructure needs this terminal,” he said. “The future of container shipping has already started, making it all the more important that we can commence operations at the deep-sea terminal in Wilhelmshaven punctually in the year 2010.”
