LE HAVRE SIGNS FIRST NEW BOX TERMINAL CONCESSION

Rotterdam’s container movements jumped by more than 12% to 9.3m TEUs whilst Antwerp registered 6.5m TEUs up nearly 7% on the previous year.

Le Havre port authority and stevedores Generale de Manutention Portuaire (GMP) have signed the first concession agreement covering the initial stage of the Port 2000 development. GMP will hold the concession for what will be known as “Terminal de France” for a period of 36 years. Port Synergy, a joint-venture company set up by GMP and P&O Ports, will manage the new facility, investing ?100m in the first phase encompassing 46ha. The initial two berths, which will have a combined capacity of 500,000 TEUs, will be equipped with six post-Panamax quayside gantry cranes supplied by ZPMC.
