Milford looks to the past

A visual inspection sparked concerns that the Marina Caisson Gate, built in the 1930s to control water levels between the lock and marina,may need replacing.

When extensive archive research located the original manufacturing drawings from Messrs Vickers of Barrow in Furness,costly dimensional surveys of all gate members in preparation of asconstructed drawings were not required, speeding the repair process.

Consultant Atkins made a condition survey of the entire docks’infrastructure to assess necessary repairs, and found through structural analysis and inspections that the gate was in good condition, with only minor structural refurbishment required.
