NEW BILBAO HARBOUR DEVELOPMENT TO OPEN IN 2006

It will be capable of handling 9m tonnes of cargo annually, although this will be extended to 15m tonnes depending on demand.

The second phase of Bilbao’s Outer Harbour development will be completed in 2006. The new A-3 Quay will consist of a 270,000 sq metre area and have 910 metres of berth with alongside depth of 20 metres. This area will be given over to shortsea shipping activities and also house the new vehicles terminal operated by Termicar. In addition, the new AZ-1 Quay is to be expanded to 200,000 sq metres, offering 21 metres of draught along a hundred metres of quay.
