NEW TANK TERMINAL FOR EUROPOORT
Euro Tank Terminal (ETT) has started construction of a new tank terminal for mineral oils at Rotterdam.
The dominance of Maersk can be seen in figures released by Algeciras port authority covering January and February 2005 during which throughput at the port amounted to 501,514 TEUs.
The 6.3 ha Europoort site, will have a capacity of 280,000 m 3and handle between 3-5m tons of oil annually. Much of this will be fuel oil transported in smaller tankers (60 to 80,000 dwt. ) from the Baltic to Rotterdam to be transhipped directly onto VLCC’s for intercontinental destinations, or stored for later delivery. Terminal and jetty are estimated to require an investment of some €50m. The terminal is planned to be operational in the first quarter of 2006.
