PORTEK IN MALTESE VENTURE

An area of 250,000 sq m will be reclaimed from the sea, giving the terminal alongside draught of 15 metres-20 metres. In all, 200,000 sq m will be dedicated to container handling and the rest to liquid bulk handling.

Portek International (55%) and the Maltese group Tumas (45%), trading at Valletta Gateway Terminals, have been awarded a 30-year concession to operate a multipurpose terminal at the Maltese port of Valletta. The terminal, which has 1,000 metres of quay, will handle containers, ro-ro, break bulk and vehicle traffic. The company will invest $10m over the next two years.
