Prescott Lock to go ahead

Funding is in place for a new lock and water control structure on Prescott Channel in Bow – the lock will enable river barges of up to 350 tons to access the area,and will be an important factor in the Olympic Delivery Authority’s aspiration to transport 50% of construction material for the Olympics 2012 by sustainable means.

The installation includes twin water control gates and a 62 m x 8 m tidal lock. Funding is coming from British Waterways, the Department for Transport,London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, the ODA and Transport for London and the work is due for completion in summer 2008.
