Significant box losses at Barcelona
The port of Barcelona is on course to handle a maximum of 1.86m teu this year, a decrease of 700,000 teu over 2008.
However, this is viewed as the most optimistic scenario; potential exists for a reduction of up to 800,000 teu, if things go really badly.
In the first four months alone, traffic dipped by more than 100,000 teu in terms of import/export and by more than 137,000 teu in terms of transshipment.
