Sines Container Terminal Receives First Vessel
Operations at Sines Container Terminal XXI (Terminal XXI), a collaborative effort between Sines Port Authority and PSA Corp, commenced on 31 May with the arrival of MSC CRISTIANA. PSA Corp says it is working actively to attract more carriers to hub in Sines.
Phase I of Terminal XXI offers 320 metres of berth with 16-metre draught, two post-Panamax quay cranes and three RTGs providing it with an annual handling capacity of 250,000TEUs.
PSA was awarded the Concession Agreement to develop Terminal XXI in 1999.
Under the agreement, PSA constructs and manages the new terminal while the Portuguese Government develops the breakwater and road and rail connections.
The masterplan provides for three mainline deep-sea berths. With a quay-line of 940 metres and draughts between 16 and 17 metres.
The total terminal capacity will be about 1.4m TEUs when completed.
