Paper products manufacturer Stora Enso is negotiating with various ports in the north of Spain in respect of a new daily ro-ro service to and from Zeebrugge. This will convey products in specially designed containers adapted for intermodal transport.
RMS will now have operations in five ports on the Humber and will be able to provide services to clients through handling larger ships with cargoes of up to 30,000 tonnes.
Block trains will be dispatched from Gothenberg, from where a daily maritime service will move them to either Zeebrugge or Antwerp, which will act as rail distribution hubs for the rest of Europe, although delivery to end-user will ultimately be by road.
The company is said to be particularly interested in Bilbao.
