Valencia receives largest ever vessel
On 4 May, MSCs 8,000 TEU vessel RACHELE docked at Valencia, the biggest container ship ever to call at any Spanish port. The vessel will be deployed on services out of China and the Far East. China is now Valencias biggest generator of traffic. In 2004, Chinese volumes handled at the port amounted to 2m tonnes, up 35.5% over the previous year.
It will be capable of handling 9m tonnes of cargo annually, although this will be extended to 15m tonnes depending on demand.
China displaces the US as the number one trading partner of Valencia, given a 12% decline in traffic from America.
