Managing technology and sustainability at GreenPort Congress Americas

Delegates at Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore will hear about the strategies and technologies ports are adopting to address climate change in a session chaired by Donald F. Boesch PhD, president, retired, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.

There will also be an opportunity to review developing technologies in a session designed to help ports understand emissions and minimise their impact. This will be led by George Aburn, director of Air and Radiation Administration, Maryland Department of Environment.

Practical sustainability

Day two of the conference will see sustainability practises being addressed, with insight on what ports are doing to ensure viability in the future through collaboration, design and construction guidelines, energy transition and cost-effective emission reduction technologies.

Examples of collaboration will be given by Tim Van Wormer, senior marine planner at Port of Portland, who will discuss the West Coast ports’ sustainable design and construction guidelines and how they have become adaptable nationwide in the US.

The Ports of Tacoma and Seattle and their sister ports of Kitakyushu and Kobe will also discuss their environmental innovation and successes.

Patrick Verhoeven, managing director, policy and strategy, International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), will deliver the keynote address on world ports sustainability.
