Water quality will be firmly in the spotlight at the 21st edition of GreenPort Congress in October, with the release of the provisional conference programme detailing sessions focused on effective water management within the broader discussion of sustainable environmental practice.

The opening day of the global port community’s annual conference, hosted this year at Portsmouth International Port, 7-9 October, will include a session examining pollution, sediment and water quality risk management in real-world port operations.

Among those contributing their expertise in this area are Małgorzata Żochowska, Business Manager at Race for the Baltic, outlining their Dry Bulk project aimed at cleaner handling of dry bulk cargoes, and Richard Haine, Managing Director of water quality specialists Frog Environmental.

GreenPort Congress will get underway with welcome addresses from its Chairman, Mark van der Veen, Director of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Amsterdam, and Mike Sellers, Port Director of event host Portsmouth International Port, who will also contribute to a session on sustainable port operations.

As in the previous 20 annual gatherings, the conference will provide decision makers from the port community with a forum to both learn about, and discuss, the latest in sustainable development and environmental practice.

The continuing mission is to enable them to effectively implement the changes needed to reduce their carbon footprint and be more responsive to environmental considerations.

This goal will be the target through to the final session Ports of the future – Collaboration & system integration – which will benefit from the contributions of Edvard Molitor, Head of International Public Affairs and Sustainability at the Port of Gothenburg, Ekaitz Lopez Amurrio, Chief Financial Officer and European Funds Coordinator at the Bilbao Port Authority, and Chris Hatter, Head of Compliance at Portsmouth International Port.
