“Aggressive goals” for emissions plan

Reaffirming their commitment to slash air pollution from the nation’s two busiest seaports, Los Angeles and Long Beach have approved a new version of the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP).

The harbour commissioners have pledged to set “even more aggressive goals” for air emissions. New air quality-improvement measures in the 2010 CAAP Update include working with shipping lines on a “preferential deployment” system to encourage lines to bring their newest ships – which emit less air pollution – to the San Pedro Bay port complex.
